NMR's founding partner, Gene Nichols established his firm in 1967. Les Melburg joined him 1975 and became a partner in 1983. The firm name was changed to Nichols & Melburg, establishing a new partnership which emphasized excellence in design and planning. This partnership was succeeded in 1985 by the current firm of Nichols, Melburg & Rossetto, when Dan Rossetto merged his practice with the original partners, bringing his expertise in large, complex projects, including educational design.

The continued growth of Nichols, Melburg & Rossetto reflects the firm’s success in establishing an organization comprised of experienced and talented architects and engineers who are dedicated to their clients and their profession. In an era of technical complexity and limited resources, the ability to consistently create projects of architectural distinction requires a commitment to design excellence and hard work.

NMR’s guiding principle is to balance functional and aesthetic elements with innovative technical solutions. Our designs are dictated solely by the requirements and goals of our clients, taking into account the site, prospective inhabitants and their usability issues and environmental concerns. The ability to be flexible, coupled with a deep respect for the interests of every client and the realities of budgets and schedules, has allowed us to produce a body of work that is a great source of pride for our clients and our firm. It is because of this that a significant portion of NMR’s projects are repeat clients.
