This campus was conceived to consolidate all of the North Valley Catholic Social Services for seniors onto one site in East Redding. The first phase provided senior day and nutrition services through Golden Umbrella and Shasta Senior Nutrition; later phases provided senior housing and medical facilities.
The design objective was to provide spaces that were particularly home like and friendly. The large central space has a bank of windows opening onto a terrace overlooking the adjacent lake. Features include nursing, exercise and physical therapy spaces surrounding a main gathering space. A warming kitchen serves breakfast, snacks, and lunch. Alzheimer patients have their own home-like space and trellis covered terrace. An extensive therapy garden is another attractive feature of the center.
The buildings emphasize outdoor features such as patios, fountains, barbecues and a therapy garden. Both successfully present a residential quality with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The day center provides space for group and individual activities, medical offices and outreach programs, particular focused on seniors with dementia/special care needs.
