Project Description

The new three building Hospice of Humboldt campus, designed by NMR  is a peaceful, comforting, nurturing and private environment for patients and their families to visit, reminisce and ultimately say goodbye. The campus’ residential environment provides a serene, comfortable home away from home that enables families to focus on living instead of the end of living.  Outdoor patios adjacent to patient rooms provide privacy, while outdoor courtyards, walking trails, outdoor play structures along with a common meal preparation area, living room, dining area, fireplace and library provide common spaces for connection, conversation and friendship.

The new site consists of three buildings, and allows Hospice of Humboldt to consolidate their services to one site. The 14,290 sq. ft. Ida Emmerson Hospice House, named after a prominent member of the community is a 12 bed in-patient facility with a commercial kitchen designed to emphasize patient and family privacy and care. The two-story, 18,371 sq. ft. administrative building incorporates administrative and home care offices for clinicians, a community accessible Grief Support Center, a board room and counseling session rooms. The 1,230 sq. ft. non-denominational chapel overlooks the McKay Community Forest, and is easily accessible for memorial services, gatherings, quiet reflections or meditation.
