The ED Expansion project at Mercy Medical Center Redding is a project that addresses the needs of an Emergency Department where current volume has increased to the point where the demand for beds is regularly higher than the beds currently available. The project includes a 4,165 sq. ft. expansion into the ambulance drop off area, adjacent to the existing trauma rooms, remodeling of approximately 8,622 sq. ft., and refurbishment of 2,953 sq. ft. of space on the first floor of the main hospital building. The two trauma bays are being expanded and upgraded in a larger more flexible space. The new space will provide enough room to accommodate an increase in the number of patient care bays, and with the exception of the two trauma room bays, all will be private rooms The expansion includes two treatment rooms designed to better accommodate psychiatric patients as well as two negative pressure isolation treatment rooms. Expansion of the Emergency Department allows for growth across a number of inpatient service lines and specifically supports the hospital’s goal of becoming a Cardiology Center of Excellence.
