In early 2017, NMR Architects was selected to design a 53,000 square foot Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Outpatient Clinic in Chico, CA. The new clinic will double the size of the existing clinic on Cohasset Road which it will replace.
The Chico VA Clinic project was awarded to a development team consisting of NMR and the Hamstra Group of Wheatfield Indiana after a national design competition. This project is NMR’s third commission for the Department of Veterans Affairs, bringing its VA healthcare facility project experience to nearly 250,000 square feet.
Designed for LEED Silver Equivalency, the new facility will consolidate several satellite clinics into one location providing expanded treatment options and greater convenience for veterans.
Primary care and specialized care including ophthalmology, audiology and speech pathology, dental care, physical and occupational therapy, prosthetic fitting and adjustment and mental health services will be delivered in an environment of care based on LEAN design and programming principles. The design goal is create an environment that improves communication among staff and patients and supports the VA Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model, a partnership between a patient and the healthcare team that ensures whole-person care.
In addition to the Hamstra Group and NMR Architects, the Chico VA Clinic project team includes Chico-based firms Robertson Erickson Civil Engineers and Surveyors, landscape architect Thomas H. Phelps.
