Project Description

This project expanded the continuum-of-care available to seniors in the Lake Almanor region of Plumas County. It was partially federally funded and partially privately funded. 22 new independent living apartments were added to the 15 that already existed. In addition, 15 new assisted living units were added, for a new total of 52 assisted and independent living apartments. The project was designed in order to allow for future expansion of an additional 15 independent living and 15 assisted living apartments. The shared dining and living areas were oversized in order to allow for the future expansion of the facility, while resulting in minimal disturbance to residents.

The goal of the design was to create a “village-like” atmosphere to reduce the perceived scale of the new project and tie it in with the design of the existing facility. It included a variety of common area spaces, including living rooms, activity room, dining facilities, beauty parlor, computer alcoves, exterior porches, as well as other amenities for the residents.
